Kudzanai CHIURAI

28Performer, fotografik urodzony w 1981 roku w Harere w Zimbabwe, mieszka i tworzy w Johanesburgu w RPA. Po wygnaniu z kraju (1999) za niepochlebny portret prezydenta Roberta Mugabe studiował sztuki piękne na Uniwersytecie w Pretorii. Uczestniczył w wielu międzynarodowych wystawach m.in. w MoMA w Nowym Jorku (2011), Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art w Helsinkach (2011), the Victoria and Albert Museum w Londonie (2011), a także na Biennale d’Art Africain Contemporain w Dakar (2006) czy na Documenta 13 (2012). Jest laureatem wielu nagród takich, jak: FNB Art Prize (2012), Top 200 Young South Africans, Mail & Guardian (2011),  Most Promising Art Student, University of Pretoria, South Africa (2003). Jego prace znajdują się w m.in. w kolekcjach Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town; BHP Billiton, Londyn;
Museum of Modern Art, Nowy Jork; Artur Walther Collection, Niemcy; The Pigozzi Collection, Włochy.

Od czasu wyjazdu z Zimbabwe Chiurai był zaangażowany w problem polityki emigracyjnej. Jego malarstwo bezpośrednio odnosi się do kwestii konfliktów społecznych, politycznych i zbrojnych we współczesnej w Afryce. Jego prace malarskie, rysunkowe, kolaże i rzeźby stanową komentarz wobec panującej w wielu krajach Afryki korupcji i przemocy.
