Artystka nigeryjska urodzona w 1958 roku w Buguma. Studiowała sztuki plastyczne na California College of Arts and Crafts w Oakland (1979–1980), w Central School of Art and Design (1980–1983) i w Royal College of Art (1983–86) w Londynie. Pracowała w Smithsonian Instytution w Waszyngtonie i w British Museum. Jej prace znajdują się w kolekcjach tych instytucji. Jest laureatką licznych nagród o randze międzynarodowej m.in.: Amy Sadur Friedlander Prize (1981), Saatchi & Saatchi Award (1982), Commander of the Order of the British Empire (2005), Honorary Fellow of the University of the Arts London (2006).
Jej prace stanowią rzeźby-instalacje wykonywane ze spawanej stali przedstawiające postaci ludzkie w charakterystycznych afrykańskich strojach, malowanych farbami. Artystka odnosi się do współczesnej maskarady, życia codziennego na afrykańskich targach. W jej pracach widoczne są silne odwołania do tradycyjnych kultów i wierzeń, często pojawia się motyw maski.
Artystka od 1983 roku mieszka i tworzy w Londynie.
